Network Structure & Organization

The Arab Network for Water Ethics (ANWE) is supervised by a Steering Committee, under the umbrella of UNESCO, and the director of the "Regional Center of Research and Studies of Water Use Ethics" acts as the coordinator of ANWE, with the partnership of, AWC, ACSAD, ALECSO, CEDARE, etc…

The network is characterized by the following:

  • ANWE is a regional nongovernmental organization.

  • ANWE is an informal body acting as a “think tank”.

The network is shaped along a triangular partnership among researchers, engineers/experts and the private sector (see Figure 1). Thus, the establishment of an Arab network for water Ethics will take the shape of this triangular relationship among applied research of the academia domain, engineers-experts-consultant domain, and the public domain.

The Network has a Steering Committee (SC) for which members are from partner bodies: UNESCO Cairo Office, AWC, ACSAD, ALECSO, CEDARE, etc… All the participants of ANWE launching workshop held in Cairo on the 5th & 6th of March 2006 were considered as members of ANWE temporary Steering Committee. The SC agreed to consider the UNESCO-IHP national committees in the Arab region as the local nodes of ANWE to promote the network activities. The SC called upon UNESCO to be the executing agency for all the network activities (see figure 2).
