ABOUT THE NATIONAL WATER RESEARCH CENTER
.
The National Water Research Center (NWRC) is a pioneer institution for various water research activities in Egypt. It was established in 1975 as a research entity within the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI). Under the umbrella of NWRC, twelve research institutes exert concerted efforts to implement a comprehensive research plan serving on-going projects and national development plans in general.

Each of the twelve institutes is concerned with one research discipline in the field of water engineering and related water issues. Besides, NWRC established a Strategic Research Unit, a Central Laboratory for Environmental Quality Monitoring, a Geographic Information System, an Information/ Documentation Center, and a highly specialized Central Library. Via its twelve institutes and in the light of future plans for water resources development and management, the ultimate objective is to optimize water use, minimize different water losses and maximize water availability. NWRC pursues a well-formulated applied research strategy to handle the following activities:
- Maintain continuity, credibility and sustainability of applied research programs to cope with the requirements of the governmental and private sectors.
- Adopt appropriate technology transfer programs to improve and promote research performance.
- Strengthen the link between applied research and executing agencies.
- Establish a strong infrastructure foundation.
