The main research fields of MERI Institute are: optimizing design and operation of water pumping units in Egypt using in irrigation and drainage systems based on the following approaches: assuring reliability of the water pumping systems; assuring perfection of the safety measures in water system developing automatic control systems to optimize water systems performance; minimizing operation running cost and maximizing units efficiency; optimizing production design for electromechanical machinery used in the projects of MWRI: developing maintenance programs for elongating life spans of constructions and machinery used in various sectors of MWRI; developing designs of systems of telemetry and centralized control for irrigation systems; developing techniques to protect equipment and materials used in MWRI projects using various techniques; and developing calibration procedures of various equipment used in irrigation and drainage systems including motors, pumps, pipes, and measuring instruments.
