Channel Maintenance Research Institute (CMRI)
The main goals of the institute are: determining the magnitude of aquatic weed problems and selecting the best technical, economical, feasible and environmental safe methods for controlling weeds so that canals can perform their design functions; designing canals and drains to meet the hydraulics and irrigation requirements with the least possibility of weed invasion; conducting field studies on maintenance problems for irrigation and drainage networks; and conducting different experiments on hatching the grass carp used for biological control, weed monitoring before and after stocking canals and drains with different densities, and determining the physiochemical characteristics of water quality that influences the health of grass carp and their nutritional needs.
